Book Blogger Hop and Follow Friday (4)

Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee.

follow friday

This week’s question is:

Q. It's circle time. Time for us to open up and share. Can you tell us FIVE quirky habits or things about you? We all have them...

A. Maria’s Five Quirky Habits:

1. I absolutely cannot stand on a street drain or any kind of drain. I am scared to death of them.

2. I always have to sit facing the window/doors. I can’t deal with the uncertainty that someone may be watching me. Did I mention I’m quite paranoid?

3. I knock on my mother’s car’s door four times before I get in. If I don’t I get a very empty feeling.

4. I have a book hoarding habit. (I really do have a lot of books to read that I have not read). I am not diagnosed with insomnia, but I tend to go to sleep at ungodly hours because I can’t sleep. There’s always ideas running through my head, so that’s why I’m always writing and always have to have many books available to me.

5. I have to listen to music to study. If I don’t, I won’t be able to concentrate, I’ll get distracted with just about anything. If I listen to music, it’s actually forcing me to concentrate, so stuff stays there. It’s the same principle for reading. I always have a certain song on repeat for a certain book. For example, for the Hunger Games, it was Lady Gaga’s “Monster”. Now every time I hear it I think of the books. It’s just an odd habit of mine. I like having a song to relate a book to.

This week's question comes from Ivan who blogs at Ivan Bookworm:

Q. "If you were given the chance to spend one day in a fictional world (from a book), which book would it be from and what would that place be?"

A. I’d like to visit Panem from The Hunger Games. I guess it’s because I find it intriguing. Don’t judge! I’d also like to visit Neverland. ‘Cause I’m cool like that.

leave your answers in the comments below! i hope to hear from you!

enjoy! –~m

  1. I'm completely the opposite-I need absolute silence for studying and reading although depending on the book, TV can be on in the background. I can only focus on one medium at a time.

  2. I'm a new follower from the hop. I tend to hoard books too. But, I've never read more than 3 at a time. :) Happy Friday!

  3. I share your fear of standing on storm drains however my reason is slightly different. My brother thought it would be funny to take me to a haunted house as a kid. It was at Niagara Falls and it's still in existence. It's called House of Frankenstein. In the haunted house, you come across a scene where Frankenstein drags this guy from the street by his foot into the storm drain he's standing over. Needless to say, it's freaked me out and scarred me for life.

  5. I'm completely like you with your #5! It doesn't have to be music for me though, it can be the TV or radio, anything except silence!

  7. I'd take Neverland over Panem. I've been mulling over this question now for about three hours. Picking just one is never easy for me. I've read so many wonderful books over the years. Come see what I chose.

  8. Id choose Neverland also, for some reason I couldnt get into the Hunger Games Books. Im with you on music, I have to have my IPOD playing in order to study :)

  11. Four times huh? I think we all have quirky little habits that we have. I actually have to wear high shirts when I ride in other people's cars or my neck feels funny. It's odd. Thanks for participating in the #FF love. XOXO - Parajunkee

  14. I'm a book hoarder as well! It is definitely my mom's fault because she bought a ton of books when I was a kid. Half of them I haven't even had a chance to read yet! And I can't stand on drains as well, it's kind of a phobia that I'm going to fall in... Have a great Friday! New follower;)

  16. I thought about putting Panem as my place to visit, but I'm thinking maybe there's a little more excitement that I'd like in one day. I can't stand on the drains on sidewalks either!! I make a point of walking around them.

  17. I am also the total opposite. I find most music annoying or grating, hence I dub myself, "deliriously unmusical"

One weird thing that I do though, is listen to an audiobook while I'm reading another book. Saves me time, and gets me through my TBR pile a little faster. Everyone I know has told me that sounds completely crazy to them, but it works for me!

  18. I don't stand on drains either. Have you seen IT? *shudders* Watching that movie when I was nine years old scarred me for life.

    Have a great weekend!

  21. I’ve seen a lot of great picks and gathered some fresh titles to add to my ever-growing TBR list. My answer will probably stun most people because the world I picked is a place most people would be scared to death of and try to escape from. Me? I want in.

  24. I am a book hoarder as well! I have a whole bookshelf of books I haven't read yet, but I still am getting new books to read instead. I also don't like to step on any kind of grate that I can see through on the street or sidewalk. I'm a new follower, hope you'll come by and check out my blog as well!

  25. Drains really are scary, so many weird things happen under them in books and movies...Ah book hoarder, can you be a book lover and not be a book hoarder? I dunno, but it sounds scary.

  26. Hi, I'm just hopping on by! I'm also a book hoarder. I just absolutely can't stand giving a book away just in case I want to read it again. By the way, I really like your header!

  28. Those are definitely some unique quirks! I can never match a song to a book - I wish I could though! I usually have to rely on the author's playlist (if they post one, that is).

    New follower! :)

  29. Wow, you're brave. I wouldn't go anywhere near Panem! Neverland, though, that would be fun ...
